Riverside Park Wet Meet
July 26, 2003
Although the weather forecast was "iffy", many members and a large contingent of local folks ventured out to the park to view the numerous display motors and shop for treasures amongst the swap items brought in by members and the public. Jerry Hargrave, a member of the Finger Lakes Chapter in New York State arrived early and picked up a couple of pre 1930 motors brought in by a local resident. In addition to a number of member to member motor sales, several other motors were brought in by the public and snapped up by members. Due to a lot of leg work by Co-hosts Rog/Blanche Dykehouse and Dick/Glenda VanRaalte, as well as from Jack Gilbert and Frank Ostradick, the local area was covered with flyers about the meet; resulting in much interest being generated. The local daily newspaper again cooperated with a great article on the meet which obviously also created interest. We signed up a couple new members for the AOMC and the Chapter which is very encouraging. Glenda VanRaalte had a table set up for the kiddies to glue together wood boats which was taken advantage of by a number of youngsters. The by now almost traditional Wolverine Chapter Fiesta luncheon was organized by Blanche Dykehouse with help from June Finch and Mona Gorz. Another great feed. Thanks Ladies! The Chapter instituted its "Peoples
Choice" awards at this meet to recognize the efforts of members who
graciously brought motors to display. Ribbons were presented in

Around noon, the weather turned threatening, chasing away many of the local visitors but it didn't prevent the die-hard "go-fasters" from taking a spin on the nearby gravel pits. Several ventured down there with their boats for some high speed fun. Sorry, too busy working and gabbing to take any pictures. Promise to do better next time. Another great meet enjoyed by all. Too bad it only lasted one day! Don't miss our third edition next year! | |||||
